THE CIVITAS NEWSLETTER — APRIL -> MAY

It’s been a busy few months at Civitas, so busy in fact that we missed a pretty big landmark. CrossFit Civitas last month turned 13 years old. It feels like a lifetime ago that we opened the doors in a unit no bigger than a large garage with homemade (death trap) boxes, a few kettlebells, some bumper plates and wall balls. I guess its important to look back as we have come so far. Like in fitness, we have set ourselves small targets each year, simply to be better than the year before and we're looking forward to improving on last year yet again!
A special thank you to the handful of members who have been on this entire journey with us for 13 years. We've had plenty of ups and downs. Thank you for trusting us for all this time.
So......... it’s definitely time for a catch up newsletter!
First up, we need to announce the winner of our last Committed Club…
As always we put those with 16+ classes into a random name generator and........ drumroll please 🥁
OLI GRAVES — you’ve won a meal for two, on us, at the Melksham Tandoori 🍛🔥
Get in touch with us to let us know when you’d like to use it and we’ll get everything booked in for you.
We’re also about to release a brand new merch drop 👀Including a completely fresh tee design…
And the winners of the next Committed Club's will each be getting some free merch 😍🔥😮💨
SO WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?
A huge shoutout to everyone who has stepped outside their comfort zone and competed over the last couple of months.
We’ve had members taking part in:
Hyrox events
10k’s
Half marathons
Strongman comps
Local CrossFit competitions
Triathlons
Quarter Finals (hosted here at the gym!)
Competing takes courage. Putting yourself out there, dealing with nerves and testing yourself in front of others is never easy. So well done to every single one of you involved 👏
Special mentions also go to Sam Thomson, who completed the London Marathon on what was a scorching day and Sophie Rees Lilley who completed an ultramarathon on the same weekend and then Jack White who recently took part in a back yard ultra!
Massive respect to you all.
RAD ACID ATHLETICS! ROUND TWO 🏆
Congratulations are also in order for the winners Katie, Phil and Tams of the second rendition of RAD Acid Athletics!
Another brutal workout, another amazing turnout and another chance to win some trainers 👟🔥
Your trainers have now been ordered and will be sent out at the end of the month 🙌🏻
MURPH 2026 🇺🇸🔥

Most recently… we had MURPH.
And what a turnout!
Probably the hottest Murph we’ve had in a long time and yet all of you got through it in tough conditions.
Hero workouts are different.
They represent something bigger than just fitness. And while we always encourage scaling and smart training in regular classes, workouts like Murph are about finding a way through discomfort, pushing past barriers and choosing the harder option when it matters.
That’s exactly what you all did.
Some of you are probably still sore… and that’s completely normal 😅. But hopefully you’re also carrying that feeling of achievement that comes from doing hard things.
We had 56 people complete Murph this year, which may be our best turnout ever.
Yes, the bigger space helps but the atmosphere, engagement and community feel in the gym right now is special, and that comes from all of you ❤️

WHAT’S NEXT?
CIVITAS26 — SATURDAY 4TH JULY 🔥

Our competition is officially SOLD OUT.
The workouts are planned, the teams are preparing and we’re excited to deliver what we hope will be an incredible day for everyone involved.
A massive thank you to everyone who has already volunteered to judge 👏
We could still do with a few more judges, so if you’re free on the 4th July and would like to help out, please speak to Mikey or add your name to the whiteboard at the gym.
You’ll be fed, watered and you’ll even get a free judges tee too 😍
COMP PREP SESSIONS
For teams wanting to get some extra practice in before the competition. Especially on things like:
Worm work
Synchro movement
Team communication
Competition flow
…the coaches will be offering small group PT sessions.
If you want to feel as prepared as possible heading into Civitas26, get in touch with one of the coaching team to get booked in 💪
TRAINING WITH PURPOSE ☀️
Whether it’s one of our competitions, a Hyrox, triathlon, a hike, or simply a personal target it’s always important to have something to train for.
Especially during summer.
This time of year brings holidays, BBQs, beer gardens, and plenty of distractions 😅
Having goals (even small ones) helps keep you accountable and keeps you in the rhythm of showing up consistently.
And consistency always wins.
PB's 🏋️
This week we tested our Hang Power Clean 1RM after several weeks of building, and the amount of PBs we’ve seen uploaded to SugarWOD has been unreal 👏
It’s proof that when you show up regularly and trust the process, the results come.
Over the next phase of programming, you’ll start to see:
More front squatting
More squat cleans
More leg strength work
Now that pulling strength has improved in the power clean, it’s time to build the strength underneath the bar and push those squat clean numbers up too.
NEW MERCH DROP 👀
Keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming merch release.
As always, it’ll be pre-order only…
And if you miss it? No, we won’t be re-ordering 😆.
The summer has arrived early, it’s been an unbelievably hot week, and we’re excited for what should be an amazing few months at Civitas ☀️🔥
Thank you all for continuing to make this place what it is.
MEMBER OF THE MONTH
MATTY G!

Matty G has been with us now for almost 12 years!! He's part of the furniture at Civitas and is a friendly face loved by all at the gym. Over the past 12 years Matty has managed to stay consistent and although he'll tell you otherwise, he is a very capable athlete and is proof that consistency wins!
Matty has found a rhythm over the past few months and attended a whopping 35 classes over March and April!
Congrats mate. Keep up the good work.
